Japanese item for I D and comment
Hi all, I have had this for a while but don't really know what it is.
Overall length in scabbard is 81 cm or 32 inches.Blade length is 46 cm or 18 inches. The wooden scabbard and handgrip show considerable patina of handling and hopefully age. The bottom end shows wear which may indicate that it has been used as a walking cane at some time. There is a wavy line on the cutting edge, but my photography skills are not good enough to show this. All comments are appreciated as they help to educate me. Brian |

Yes, it is a walking stick or sword cane (Shikomi-zue). Popular during the
late 19th early 20th C. Mostly for tourists and usually have low quality blades although I've seen a couple very high grade ones. This appears to be one of the average types. Rich S |
