silver pointer ? Dutch, oriental, judaica ?
Hello,
I just bought this silver object, I really liked the shape and the specials engravings : animals and characters I don't know what it was made for, the seller sold it as an umbrella hilt but I don't think so, seems a little like an jewish yad ?! ( just a little !...) Any advice ? Thank you Franck |

This is a guess, I do not know the purpose of this item.
However I have seen something similar that was the end of a long stick used to move drapes on their rod, it was all wood, it had a ring towards the point that had a cord through it, the bent point was placed against the suspension ring of the drapes, the cord was pulled on to move the drapes along the rod. |

Hello,
Thank you Maisey, have you perhaps a picture of this kind of stick ? this point is not a hook at all , no ring attach at the end. More an icicle shape, or twisted horn ? cornucopia ?( ritual ? ) Maybe a spindle for spinning wool or silk I saw some made of iron but why in silver ??... |

Just for perusal, the first torah reading implements did not end with a hand finger shape, but with that of a school teacher tapering pointer.

I believe the correct term for this type of pointer is "Yad"
