Giant Koumiya
Hi,
Any comments about giant koumiya unlike the one sold by Oriental arms? He said: "The actual use of such big Koumaya dagger is still a mystery: It is definitely old, early 20 C. and not a tourist souvenir. Is it for ceremonial use? or may be an advertisement to a Koumaya maker?? In any case it is an unusual and interesting authentic item." I agree it's an authentic stuff. Some of them have real good blades others don't, but they are all old. early 20 C & end of 19th. Best, Kubur |

Could you better define Giant? I don't know the size of the relatively small one, so I don't know the size of the larger one. Also I was told that large simple butte rings instead of Riveted bails with all the attention the rest of one has = tourist knife. I don't know how true that is though. Because most things in history have been made to varying degrees of quality.

As Lily von Shtupp from "Blazing Saddles" used to say, " What a nice guy...."

Salaams Kubur see http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...roccan+daggers and or type in Moroccan daggers to Forum search. I think it is the "Gendarmes Hat" style. Shown at my post on #6. (Chapeau de Gendarme) Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. |

Yes they are chapeau de gendarme. The biggest 60cm and the smalest 40cm. Shukran for the link! Kubur |

Salaams Kubur, I think the chart you have supplied from Stone is about sufficient though I have to agree with it being somewhat blurred perhaps because it is a sketchograph ... however, I note the daggers you present are there in the chart ...Possibly at 8 and 3... Can you confirm that...and are they both Hat of the Policeman styles? I think it would be a good idea if you can to stick up the key to that chart which would serve Library well for those who dont have Stone ... Hats off to that if you can Note. Perhaps Stone missed the important Talisman 5 geometric decoration at the hilt of the largest in the chart and at #1 ? ; 5 fingers of the Hand of Fatima design. Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. I took the image into gimp to see if I could squeeze a little better detail out of it.

Gaint Koumaya
A link to Giant koummya 24 inches OAL. Here is a normal sized heavy all steel one 15 3/4 inches OAL , the blade is chrome plated and it doesn't appear to have been put into use. Windows 10 has complicated photos. I'll try to get it working, It looks to be the same style as others shown. Steve

No's 23 and 24 from Stone's Glossary, are presumably the "Met. Omani" khanjar posted by Kubur on the "Omani Khanjar (Jambiya) for Comment" thread.
