Morocco
I am returning from a trip to Morocco. Part of the trip was dedicated to see what is available in our field of interest. In all the markets I visited, most of the staff is newly made Koumaya daggers bazaar quality and thousands of them. First photo is just a small example. But if one insist, some of the market dealers has the real exemplars not on display but in separate compartment, the "Ali Baba" box as some call it. Below is an example of such Koumaya collected in Fez market. The dealers know very well what they have and prices are unfortunately not low.

Artzi,
Thanks so much for showing these hard to find older examples. The spiral silver design on the sheath of the one you show in detail is very attractive and obviously made with considerable skill. Did you acquire all of the ones shown in the first picture? Ian. |

Marakesh is one place I was not able to stay and visit. If I had, I know that there is a great shop there with antique bladed weaponry.
