Default A lontar scribe's knife

My second purchase from yesterday is a lontar scribe's knife which was wrong listed as navaja knife!

These knives are rarely seen. Here two old threads where this knives are shown and discussed.

Hello Barry,

thank you! I guess that it is ivory. I don't have it in my hands until now. I've bought it for the price of a two person McDonalds meal.

Regards,
Detlef

Have received the knife, handle is indeed ivory. The spine of both blades was once inlaid with a strip of engraved silver, only a small section at the needle is still present. Maybe someone will be able to read the inscription of the blade or at minimum can tell which language this is. The knife seems to have a great age. Here some pictures after it has received some maintenance.

Some time ago I get a second scribers knife, same form but this time with full intact inlay at the spine. It look like the inlay is from gold but I haven't test it.

I too have one of these scribes knives. I was told that the language it is written in it Tamil, and on mine it says 'Poopeperi' - probably a name.
