Trapezoidal Powder Flask
I recently purchased this flask, and I am reaching out for any information on the possible origin of this piece. The embossed leather body of the flask features a picture of two knights fighting. They appear to both have shields with coats of arms on the shields, the motif has been worn down over time and specifics of the design are indistinct. It is possible the body is much older than the carry strap which was attached with metal brads. Another curious element is that the leather is stamped on the base with the letter S with a series of numbers above and below the S. The stylized letter and numbers are very consistent with what I would expect to see on pieces from the early to mid 1800's, which is not consistent with the time period these flasks were used. Thank you to all who offer any input on this piece. I bought it because it intrigued me but know nothing about these types of pieces. My area of familiarity is late 1700's to late 1800's. Thank you for any information.
