Knife ID and age please
Hi
Please could you assist in identifying the origin and likely age of this Asian knife. The hilt is an extremely well carved image of a bird. There are no markings or date stamps. Thanks |

Hi Sid. This is a Java golok (Sunda) likely from Tjipatjing or Tjikeroeh villages. This area made a large range of high quality weapons both Indonesian and European styles often stamped with village name (abbreviated) and date (usually late 19C to early 20C). http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=948 Here is one that I have.

Hi Sid,
Yep, there is a lot of collective knowledge here. That's a nice looking knife of an unusual shape for this genre. Judging from the hilt, it seems to have some age to it, consistent with Jeff's estimate. Nice find. |
