Intersting Batangas (?) sword
I am more and more interested in Luzon swords/bolos. So I am seeking informations about this sword which was yesterday listed by ebay but ended early, I think someone have done a deal with the seller.
I think it is from Batangas, correct? |

I doubt this is from the Philippines the demon hilt seems Hindu. So could be some where else? Probably Indo-China or Indonesian or possibly Tibet.

Thank you Lew. Where you see Hindu influence by the handle? I don't think that the sword is from Bali, so not Indonesian.

The symbols on the blade look Bhudist and the blade is very dha like so I would suggest as has Lew, Indo-China. Looks like the blade is quite old? I like the guard. What a shame there is no scabbard.

The blade looks Chinese, but the hilt does not. I wonder if it came from a Chinese enclave in the Philippines or Indonesia, or from a SEA rehilting of a Chinese saber?

Definately not Philippine. Here is a Buddist/Hindu demon for comparison. The Philippines is predominantly either Catholic in the north and Muslim in the south.
The hilt and guard seems newer than the blade so I think it's more for ceremonial or status than for combat. Last edited by Lew; 23rd December 2012 at 06:00 PM. |
