Default Thai? Burmese? But Brit. Indian military.

Ive had four of these over the years, [seen about 12 or 13.] kukri collecters buy them as kukris, They are all made at Cossipore Arsenal, mostly in 1919,1921 & 1927 Although Ive seen a scabbard dated 1917.

To me the look Burmese or Thai a WW2 veteran told me a few years ago he saw Chin troops in the Brit army carrying similar native weapons. I think there probably a copy of a tribal burmese or Thai tribal design? Rather than a kukri?

So anyway you Dhafia guys Can you help on the origins of this design?that the Brit. Indian army clearly copied in thier armourys for at least 10 years.

Also The bullk of the blade steel seems essentialy as forged ? rather than further ground. Most seems to be excelent steel & temper.

They make great users very practical design.

Also this one carries a WIWI 4 marking that. Ive never been able to fathom the meaning of though.

I've seen a few modern versions sold as "Thai Knives" on Ebay. The seller also sells new Darbs on a regular basis.

According to this thread. As far as I know, the design has been used for more than 200 yo. They were used as utility knife in garden, farm and jungle. Some of them are slightly modified to suit local wood (rattan, bamboo, coconut, hardwood, softwood etc.)

Here 's the antique type.

And you may find more modern type here.
