Splendor of the Orient: distinguished arms and related object- March 14-25- New York
Dear fellow collectors,
For our inaugural annual catalog, and our third annual exhibition during NY's Asia Week, we will be presenting a selection of 25 distinguished arms and related objects from Asia. We are proud this year to feature a special exhibit on Korean arms and armor, which has never been presented publicly and comprehensively in this manner, with a selection of rare swords, archery equipment, and armor. In the section featuring arms from India, we are proud to offer one of the rarest forms of Indian arms to be found in any level of quality; a distinguished aṅkuśa in iron. From China and Tibet, we will be featuring exceptional swords and horse equipment, from the years 1600-1920. From the Islamic world, a circa 1500 Mamluke blade in Ottoman officer mounts and other rare Ottoman swords and firearms. And, last but not least, from Thailand and Japan, two objects with royal and historical significance. Each item in our catalog has been carefully selected, conserved with appropriate methods, and thoroughly researched. Our approach is to document our sources with full references and a bibliography so that any acquisition has all the necessary background to stand on it's own as objet d'art. The exhibition gallery will be open March 14-24, with a special gala reception Wednesday March 14, 5-7pm at the Manhattan Art & Antiques Center 1050 2nd Ave., New York, NY 10022. We will be posting the catalog for full viewing online, March 15. |
