RS 35 1944 markings on a Choora??
Just got a fairly well crafted Choora and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the later added Dates and the RS 35. This doesn't seem to be just initials. Does it refer to a military company during WWII? If I'm reading the Urdu date 1319 correctly that would make the first date 1901-02. So far, I'm not finding much other than Afghanistan was neutral, but had hump fly overs to Burma. Thanks, Steve

Could well be Royal Corp of Signals, usually shortened to Royal Signals.

Well, they had a unit 35 and were stationed all over during WW2; a quick search in Wiki revealed this much .

Hi,
The 35th Regt Royal Signals (South Midlands) was, it's been disbanded, a Territorial Unit formed around 1967 so I think it must be something else. Regards, Norman. |

Royal Survey?
Thank you, I had found references to British Survey crews working on India's Northwest border in 1944. this narrows the 35 to an actual unit too. I'll look there for more information. After thought, in 1944 northwestern India would have encompassed Pakistan. West Pakistan became independent in 47-48.
I found accounts of the Royal Corps of Signal RS in India during 1944. Thank you all for your insight. Steve Last edited by archer; 6th March 2010 at 02:49 AM. Reason: more Information |

There were quite a few British units that were stationed in that part of the world. Here is one that I have marked Ramzak Sellers 1930.
