Golok?
Hello,
I have already long this chopper from Bali or Lombok but I don't know the excatly name and origin. Is it a Golok? Dimensions: 50 cm (19,7 inch) inside the sheat, blade 32 cm (12,6). Your comments would be appreciated. sajen |

THE WORKMANSHIP IS MOST LIKELY LOMBOK BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN BALI AS THEY ARE OFTEN SOLD THERE AS FEW TOURISTS GO TO LOMBOK SO THEY SEND MOST STUFF THERE TO SELL. THIS IS THE USUAL NICELY CARVED HANDLE FOUND ON WEDONG FROM THAT AREA, BUT YOUR EXAMPLE DOES NOT HAVE A WEDONG BLADE IT LOOKS MORE LIKE THE TIP OF A DAYAK MANDAU. MANDAU ARE USUALLY FLAT ON ONE SIDE AND SOME ARE CONCAVE ON THE OTHER SIDE BUT MOST ARE NOT. A UNUSUAL ITEM PERHAPS INFLUENCED BY LOOKING AT A MANDAU OR MADE FROM A BROKEN BLADE. THATS THE MOST I CAN SAY AS IT IS AN ATYPICAL FORM BUT NEAT LOOKING.

Thank's for comment! My first guess also have been wedung because handle and sheat but the blade dont fit in this way, to different. My second guess have been that it is maybe one sort of working tool because the edge look heavily used. Regards, sajen |
