Hello. I am new to the forum and was directed to this website for some further information about my keris I inherited. Please enjoy the pictures and I look forward to any thoughts or history lessons you may offer.

Welcome to the forum.
This is not a keris. A keris is from indonesia. This is a Moro kris from the Philipines. The knowledgeable members will come soon enough with their information. The only thing I can say about your kris is that it is a nice one. |

A very nice kris showing signs of genuine use and wear complete with munsala .
Nineteenth or turn of the century perhaps ? The blade could be older than the dress, and it is not new . I want to say Sulu.... but I'm not gonna; nope . Looks like you need another piece (band) for the scabbard . Are those silver ? May we have some closeups ? |

The blade could be Sulu, but the rest could be Maguindanao.
The bands could be white metal. I would put it at the late 19th century. |

Welcome to the forum! Could you please post dimensions of this Moro blade?
The nice blade seems from Sulu to me, too. I'd guess it might be late 19th c. or turn of the century at the latest. I especially like those one-piece asang-asang (clamp at the base of the blade) made from iron... The metal on the fittings looks more like white metal rather than silver. Maybe the hilt and scabbard are a bit later replacements? When did this kris come into your family? Regards, Kai |
