Ottoman Yataghan
Picked up this Yataghan this week. Nice old piece, with a bit of an untidy handle. Nice mark on the blade (any clues?).
It looks like the grip is a type of Horn? Blade is 23" with a 5" handle. Any ideas on the age of this; I admit I know very little about them! |

It's from Bosnia I think, for the handle material we need better pictures but could be rhino horn. Mid 19th century would be my guess but I am not an expert so take my comment with a grain of salt.

Hello Bob,
We need a close-up of the mark! And for the horn, a top view close-up (of the end of the pommel) would be needed, too! Regards, Kai |

I disagree these inlays are not only from Sarajavo but also very Turkish
look at the guns, long guns and powder flasks... Could be a Turkish yataghan |

The insets and missing insets as well as the shape of the hilt indicate to me Serbia, 19th century.
