BICOL GATAB
Hello friends,
sharing this oldie Bicol gatab (small knife). Blade profile: ginunting blade material: steel file peened tang, brass ferrule hilt/pommel: Inaso (hound design). Hardwood. 12 inches over-all length/ 7.75-inch blade no scabbard (but ordered a maravical scabbard for this chap) Bought this piece from eBay. Enjoy Yves |

Hi Yves,
Very nice, congrats! I have a fondness for Bicol blades. But I bet that the hilt is from horn instead of wood, I know this type of horn from my own Bicol blades. Regards, Detlef |

BICOL GATAB

The seller from Georgia (US) posted it (hilt) as made from horn (buffalo, I guess). But when I held it, looks and felt like wood. ha ha ha. Im wrong and I believe you're right. Much thanks Sir. |

Please name me Detlef or Sajen, it sounds better to my ears.
It's the same colour and structure I know from some of my Bicol handles so I am nearly sure it's horn, could be also an other horn as buffalo but I am unsure. Regards, Detlef |
