Question Mandauhandle with iron windings?

Hi,

Lately I bought this mandau.
All I know about this mandau is that it was brought back by an american serviceman in WWII.
It has a sort of 'iron' winding on the handle.
I know it can be ratan or copper but I never saw this ironwindings.
It looks original to me, but I'm not sure.
Is there anybody who knows if the dayaks used iron for this handle-windings?
Are there other sorts of windings and can you post pictures of it?

Regards,
Maurice
