Hi all,
I have many questions about this shamshir : 1. The translation of the writings in the cartouche 2. The meaning of the figures on the hilt 2. Its age 3. The blade is completly covered by a dark patina. Probably under there is a good wootz. How might I remove only the patina without ruin the damascus ? Regards Paolo |

I'm guessing Persian and 19th century Qajar period.

Hi Paolo,
Nice shamshir, Persian I would say, although I don't know much about Persian swords, but there are others on the forum who can help. It is always a risk to remove the patina. If you don't find wootz, would you be sorry, or would you be as glad for the shamshir anyway? Nice pictures , and dont believe what Ariel writes - although I know he tries to be helpful . |

Yes, nice shamshir. Handle is definately Persian, Qajar Revival period. The blade however, appears much older, and may be 18th century.
