" French Kuburpistols "
a good pair of french pistols made for the oriental customer ,locks and barrels from st,etienne ,stocks and engravings possibly in marseille in the mid of the 19 century. similar pistols where made by Lamotte,Claude Bizouard ect. a allmost identical pair was in the Dreager collection and has been sold by Thierry de Maigret in 2007. to make these 2 guns more attractiv , they were signed "Jordan London" as at this time, the french mode was out and british goods very hip. greetings Iskender

Hi Eskender.
I'm loosing my mind looking at all these recent posts of pistols. What an outstanding pair. I would have to take those to bed with me under the pillow. LOL!! Yes, those pistols, even if unmarked look very European made. And obviously for an Ottoman customer of means. What I find interesting about these Kubur pistols, wheather plain or decorated, is how the general shape usually follows the 1730-50 French pistol patterns. And continued for a long period of time. Again, magnificent pair. Rick |
