I just got one and just wondered if any of you have any experience with them.
I am posting this here becuase i bought it from a guy I have bought many swords from. This one is actually quite older than the photo makes it look probably 100 to 150 years old. ![]() And a more detailed pic ![]() Thanks for any experience |

It looks like a version of Mahakala, "The Great Black One", a very famous Buddhist protective deity.
Can you post a clearer pic of the face? |

Here is a Little closer look.
I believe she is called Palden Lhamo. I have found much interesting information on her. I want to make sure I take care of this properly. It is a truly beautiful piece of Art history ![]() And this one (I edited the brightness and contrast) ![]() |

A VERY NICE THANGKA AND THE SUBJECT MATTER IS DIFFERENT THAN MOST, I LIKE IT A LOT. IT EVEN HAS VULTURES EATING A WOUNDED TIGER OR THATS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ITS KIND OF DIFFICULT TO SEE. CONGRADULATIONS ON A COOL ONE!.
THE MAIN THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PRESERVE IT IS TO KEEP IT OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT. ACID FREE MOUNTING IS BEST BUT AS THEY ARE USUALLY ON CLOTH YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT ACIDS MAY BE IN THE FABRIC OR PAINTS ORIGINALLY USED. TOUCHING IT WITH HANDS IS ANOTHER NO NO AS SKIN IS OILY AND ACID WHICH WILL HARM THE PAINT AND FABRIC. KEEPING IT DRY AND MOULD AND MILDEW FREE IS ANOTHER THING TO WATCH OUT FOR SO ROOM HUMIDITY IS SOMETHING THAT ALSO NEEDS TO BE CONTROLLED. DON'T HANG IT IN THE BATHROOM OR NEAR THE HOT TUB ![]() ADDING A FEW MORE! DON'T KEEP IT NEAR A COOKING AREA AS GREASE CAN BECOME AIR BORNE DURING COOKING, SMOKING IS ALSO HARD ON ANY WORK OF ART AS IT COATS THE ENTIRE ROOM WITH NICOTINE AND TAR OVER TIME. KEEPING IT NEAR THE BED COULD ALSO CAUSE BAD DREAMS IF YOU STUDY IT AT BED TIME ![]() Last edited by VANDOO; 11th February 2006 at 04:13 AM. |
