Collection of sword pommels
The Vorarlberg Museum (former Vorarlberger Landesmuseum) in Bregenz, federal state of Vorarlberg, in western Austria at the Lake of Constance has a collection of approx. 700 sword pommels on display at it's permanent exhibition. As far as I could see they are dating from14th to 18th century. The Sword pommels have been collected by Carl von Schwerzenbach (*1850-†1926), unfortunately he was interested in the pommels only and therefore only collected them ... The collection is very imposant - but when you think on the blades which was separated from the pommels ...
An photo of the pommels can be found on this page of Vorarlberg Museums website (1st image of the gallery): http://www.vorarlbergmuseum.at/ausst...orarlberg.html Here is a short description in German language: http://www.vorarlbergmuseen.at/musee...objekte/VM-10/ |

Great collection.
I am a visitor to a private huge weapons collection (a museum to be) where artistic pommels are also by the hundred, not counting military ones and those converted into counterweights. However in this case, the fact that the owner possesses large quantities of weapon noble parts, namely pommels, Portuguese trigger guards, lock plates and counter plates, hundreds of entire weapons are also in the inventory ... and all of the best. . |
