Algerian Musket
Hello all. Recently Fernando posted his Algerian musket for comment and translation. I wanted to post one of mine to ask if the lock engravings translate to any meaning? It appears they are mostly decrative. There is only one tiny mark on the barrel on the left side of the breech. It looks like either a "M" or "IVI" with a small crown on top. This little stamp on the barrel is not crudely done and looks to European standards. I can find no other markings on the gun. I am trying to investigate who the previous owner(s) were. Supposedly, this gun was located in a -now closed - museum in California. But I have not been able to confirm this, as yet. Any translation from the lock or I.D. on the barrel stamp much appreciated. Thanks, Rick.
