that's what I thought of too, "tikki torches" or whatever...

IF these are "tiki torches" how does one explain the solid centres on some of them? The fact that the tops are carved would suggest some ethnic origin maybe, though what, and for what purpose I do not have a clue. Also what is the purpose of those straps below the bulb? Do they pull out to release anything?
