Hi wscook,
Welcome to the forum. A beautiful sword. Maybe some pics of the blade? One reminder. Read the forum rules before posting. We don't do price appraisals here. Or like we prefer to say, we discuss weapons not money. |

Welcome, wscook.
![]() Henk's advice is well-taken--please read the forum rules. We do, from time to time, discuss money with regard to general market conditions. What we don't do is provide public appraisals of value. Members are free to contact you directly via PM or email with that information, however. Frankly, however, if that sword is what is purports to be, I think you'll find it difficult (if not impossible) to find anyone willing to appraise it based on a few photos posted on the internet. A BEAUTIFUL SWORD INDEED!! I HAVE NOT SEEN A JAPANESE SWORD WITH STONES INSET ON IT BEFORE, GARNETS?. I HAVE NO IDEA OF PRICES BUT WOULD ADVISE YOU CHECK THIS SWORD OUT VERY THOURGHLY BEFORE YOU SELL IT. PERHAPS THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATED WITH THE MUSEUM THERE WHO COULD HELP YOU OUT. IT STRIKES ME AS A TOP END PRESENTATION PEICE FOR SOMEONE OF HIGH RANK. THANKS FOR SHAREING THE PICTURES WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AND KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS EXCEPTIONAL SWORD.

Tachi looks very well cared for. I concur with Andrew, papers and provenance as well as blade picture are very important.
A sword of Kamakura Period should have some NBTHK papers for sure. |
