It's been quite awhile but I've been wiping the dust off my collection and venturing back into the strange new world known as eBay that only vaguely resembles the site I used to frequent.
Does anyone remember "Conogre", aka Mike Dandaneau? Sadly he passed away in late November 2020. Unfortunately I didn't know until about 6 weeks later. I know his son's took his collection but I've looked high and low and haven't seen a single piece pop up for sale on eBay or Facebook. Just a long shot but hoping someone here might know something. |

Hi Justin,
Thank you for this note, and YES I do remember CONOGRE, from it seems forever ago! He was a great guy, fun posts and discussions, I am so sad to hear he is gone. So many have gone from here over the years, mostly just moved on into the 'new world', not just ebay, but facebook etc. Its sad to hear of the passing of anyone, but he was one of the 'old guard' and my sincerest wishes for his resting in peace and to his memory. Naturally as I never knew of his passing no idea what became of his collection. He was always finding fascinating items, so hopefully they found good homes. Sincerely Jim |

Thanks Jim,
He and I lived fairly close by and became very good friends over the years. Unfortunately over the last four or five years of his life I don't think I visited more than once but we spoke on the phone frequently. He was in very bad health. Also his relationship with his family wasn't the best to say the least. I expected his collection to get sold off immediately. I spent a lot of time at his house and would recognize a number of pieces instantly if they popped up. |

Hi Justin,
I remember Mike well and he was fun to have around. Your post here is the first I have heard of him in 15+ years. His collection of knives and swords was interesting and he had some unusual items. Mike had a number of health issues. Also, if I recall correctly, he had a lady friend who was murdered--a very tragic event in his life. Thanks for the update. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. Ian. |

Ian, I'm glad you're still around!
I do believe the one dha still in my collection was thanks to your guidance! Yes, there was some major drama with his girlfriend Elise. That settled down thankfully. Mike was one of the most interesting people I've ever met. Tons of crazy stories that sounded like BS. But I was there for a few of them and after that I realized he was sincere. I stayed at his house through a hurricane one time. We went out and bought candles among other things to prepare. When we got back and unpacked, the candles didn't have any wicks. He laughed and told me that didn't surprise him. Just the way his luck was. |
