Hello friends,
A talibong/talibon from Culasi, Antique with a 'kinampit' blade profile. OAL: 29.5 inches/ blade: 19.5 inches. When this was found, the original scabbard was beyond salvation so we had this new scabbard made from an artist in Iloilo. What fascinated us are the pommel design (looks like a maranhig-undead) and the blade carvings. The maranhig looks 'devilish' in appearance to me. A blade that made us smile. Enjoy Yves PS: pictures a but dark and hazy. My apologies. |

The pommel design looks contemporary as compared to the maranhig figurals that I've seen and held. It would be wise to ask a Panay/Negros elder to classify the pommel appropriately, as there may be another term for it. Btw, the terms "linamay, bakutan, kinampit" are only used in Aklan, by Akeanons. There are different terms for the profiles in Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, etc. Again, consultation with elders is a must in order to attain the appropriate terminologies.
