Don't know much about mandaus. Does anyone know which sub tribe this come from? and the blade doesn't look like typical mandau blade to me. Appreciate any explanation.
Won this in a recent auction. didn't generate much interest so got it within my means. |

I don't know a lot about these; the blade doesn't seem "atypical," for a mandau (please give closeups if you can), however, the handle seems unusual.
Great sword! |

Sorry no close up for the moment as the item is still not with me. But here are blown up pics of the blade showing a rather basic decoration.

Good evening,
The blade looks concave / convex on the first 2 pictures, which makes it a mandau blade. Th egenaral shape is not atypical The decoration that is visible on the last pictures looks indeed a bit atypical. Better picture in due time will be nice. Nice carved handle. the bronze sleeve is atypical, and probably even a later addition. Maybe a sleeve from a spear/lance that was modified ? handles with silver sleeves are sometimes seen. tastefull weapon nevertheless. Best regards, Willem |
