I reposted this with edits and better pictures. This is an early explosive shell/device from the Age of Fighting Sail. It is about the size of a small orange. It could have held black powder and pellets, noxious substances (stink pot) or a flammable substance for ignition on a ship's deck. It is pre-19th century, but the exact dating remains unclear (Chinese and Arabic ceramic grenades date back to the Middle Ages). It is made from black clay and very delicate, miraculous that it survived so long. I have further information if anyone has further questions. I have drastically lowered the price in order to sell-
