Hi everybody.
This is my first post in this forum and I have this blade, which is most likely a Persian Qaddar dagger/sword, as I found out after some research. This blade has three fullers on each side; two narrow ones and a larger one underneath those. It has some intricate engravings and a maker's mark in the form of a flower. I was wandering if anybody has seen this maker's mark before or can identify it and if someone can tell me what the maker's mark says. Thank you. |

A NICE SWORD TOO BAD THE HANDLE IS MISSING. IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A RUSSIAN SWORD LIKELY FROM GEORGIA OFTEN REFERRED TO AS A QUAMA. THE ONES FROM GEORGIA OFTEN HAVE SEVERAL FULLERS LIKE YOUR EXAMPLE BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE WITH MAKERS MARKS LIKE YOURS. WELCOME TO THE FORUM AND GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SEARCH.

The style is Quddera...Persian, whereas the Qama looks like a cross between Roman Gladius and a Scottish Dirk ...see http://atkinson-swords.com/collectio...a-georgia.html for what a Qudderra looks like .
![]() Try http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...hlight=persian for the same stamp on what is spelled as Quaddara see also http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...light=quaddara Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi. Last edited by Ibrahiim al Balooshi; 23rd September 2015 at 07:18 PM. |

Thanks to everyone that replied. I also think that this is made in Persia, as after a research online I found several examples that are clearly Persian. Also Qamas are double edged (even if they have a curved blade)...
I have restored the handle since and made a video of the restoration and will post a link here soon (of course only if it is OK with the moderators of this site), after I upload it to You Tube. (The video will stay there forever so broken link will not be a problem.) I would love to know what the maker's mark says, if somebody can read it. ![]() |
