Hi everyone, I was wondering where is this shamshir from. The blade is characteristic Persian, but the fittings make me think it's of Afghan origin. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hmm, I'm far from an expert, but I don't think I've ever seen a Syrian shamshir with a cross guard with that kind of raised cross and wide profile. Correct me if I'm wrong but more typically they are flatter and more slender:
That strikes me as more similar to guards found on Indian swords, e.g.: Last edited by werecow; 2nd January 2025 at 12:13 AM. Reason: Added pictures as examples |
