During the Greek war of independance (1821-1829), an event of great importance was the siege and exodus of Mesologgi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missolonghi

Very cool! My great great grandfather fought in Messologhi as a Greek officer and defended the Bastion "franklinos". Thankfully, he survived the final sortie which allowed me to eventually get born!

Thank you Eftihis for your participation. It is important to keep some traditions .
In this anniversary one can see many interesting weapons like in these photos from previous years. |

efthis,
Do you know whether or not these are genuine "antique" weapons, in which case I would speculate (sorry moderators) some of the participants are carrying the equivalent of a small fortune. Do these weapons belong to the participants themselves? Is there a business in making replicas for these occasions ? It would be very interesting to know the source of these weapons. Best wishes Richard PS, I know this is being rather romantic, but wouldn't life be more interesting if we now had the courage to dress as they did then? |

Love these photos, beautiful people, beautiful weapons.
I wonder if a person can run and move freely with so much stuck in the belt, it makes a great display, but it seems it might be clumsy. |
