Generally we see Islamic kard daggers in a straight form, whether Ottoman, Persian, or Indian. That's what made this one so interesting to me. It's an Ottoman style kard with a lovely, gracefully curved blade in superb condition. The hilt is walrus ivory. The blade is a very low contrast wootz, almost impossible to pick up in the pics. There is gold koftgari work at the bolster. The scabbard is engraved silver.
One of the gold cartouches is in Islamic script, and I am hoping for some translation help! Comments welcomed. |
