I recently acquired this interesting old kris attributed to Sumatra (sorry for the pic quality, I will shoot better ones later) and I would like to get your opinions about its origin. The buntut at the bottom of the gandar seems missing.
I purposely did not show the blade, not because it is an outstanding masterpiece but in order not to influence your assessment; the blade fits perfectly into the scabbard and it seems to be an old combination. Regards |

Hello Jean,
I would guess that it's a Minangkabau keris! ![]() Regards, Detlef |

Hello Detlef,
Thank you and this is what I am guessing too, I attach a pic of the blade (in typical bahari style). Regards |

a very attractive blade!
I'm far from an expert, but i thought this kind of blade is more suited to the dress with saribulan sampir(crosspiece)? |

Correct Nik but this type of blade is also commonly found with Minang krisses (besides the short blades with 3 luk), see some specimens in my book for instance.

Seems like the nose is adapted / reshaped but pics lack to be sure. Would be intersting to see more of it in detail.
Can / will you pull it off and add a proper selut? |

The hilt is stuck and I did not attempt to free it yet (a delicate operation as it is cracked). Yes, I will try to fit a proper pendokok, and the nose was either slightly reshaped or worn, it it is a very old piece. Regards |
