			Helly everybody,

I got this chainmail glove/mitten packed with other old items, I wonder it it's a medieval item ( but really not easy to hold the sword with this ! , The chainmail is on both side !) maybe just a glove for underwater fishing / sea urchins... : ) What do you think ? Kind regards |

As the rings are all the same size with no differences at all and no traces of manual labour I think that this item is very modern and may have been used by a butcher in order to prevent hurt of the left hand by the normally very sharp knives.

Also, the rings are not riveted, just butted ends, a trait of the cheaper modern versions. A mitten for swords would have a mail layer sewn to a leather glove to provide grip to the sword hilt. A butchers glove has links on the palm and back of the hand to improve grip on a fish or slippery bone, which would scrape and damage a sword grip. Modern butchers or anti-shark mail use smaller links of stainless steel with welded links.
