Default Fourth Acquisition
Bought from a festival vendor. Appears to have been scrubbed. There was a warp in the blade I straightened (I'm an experienced smith), and a missing chunk in the pommel I replaced. Visible patterning in the blade.

Michael,
This sword although called a Kris is from the Philippines and we discuss them in the Ethnographic forum, (sorry if this is a bit confusing) but in the Keris Forum we only discuss the keris's from Indonesia and the surrounding area.

Philippine/Moro krisses are sword sized and have somewhat differing cultural aspects from their smaller Indonesian relatives.

So, off to Ethno this one goes.

Hi Michael:

Nice kris you have there. Probably from the Maguindanao people on the island of Mindanao, and made at the end of the 19th C. or early 20th C.

Thanks for the info. It appears it was dark at one point, but doesn't appear it was etched, just darkened with age. What is the proper finish?

nice Kris, I agree with Ian about age and origin. And good repair at the pommel!
I would polish the blade and give it an etch with vinegar.

Easily done. How dark an etch? Barely enough to show the pattern, gray, or black? I also have ferric chloride, Belgian blueing and other acids.

This was my last restoration. 200 years old. Still shoots.

Of the blades, I did. I can of the cape gun if you wish.

What style of scabbard? I can get kalantas wood.

This place isn't very far away from my home but since I have to drive every day for my job by terrible traffic conditions I am happy when I not have to drive at weekend.

The base is hosting a sci fi convention and I'm one of the guests. Though I completely understand not driving long distances just to talk blades.
