Hi Ric,
On the subject of 'props', there were a number of 'boys historical adventures' made for television during the fifties here in the U.K. that used the real thing rather than props. The Adventures of William Tell was one that had an fair amount of Third Reich 'Holbien' daggers for the characters and in another The Adventures of Sir Lancelot a number of 'knights' were equipped with, I'm sure, genuine Indo Persian helmets. I am aware that there was a time, when, if you searched the stores of the prop suppliers you could find the genuine article alongside the fake if you knew what you were looking for. I'm betting that these 'real props' are long gone now, must have been an Aladdin's cave at one time.
