I don't think the clamps can be dated from their construction per se: Both styles seem to have been in use for quite a long time (apparently with regional preferences). Stronger/solid, well-made examples regardless of construction are a good sign (of craftmanship), of course.
IMHO this nice Maranao blade is from the 19th century. Thanks for letting me play with it, Flavio!
