In my case, the Indonesian(Javan)
parang with old
yat blade, I bought strictly out of my love for cross cultural pieces. No doubt this blade was part of the extensive Islamic trade routes that extended as far as from the Med. to Indonesia.
That an
Ottoman yat blade found its way to a
Javan parang(of excellent quality, btw) in the late 19th, or early 20th century is just fascinating to me. I have many such trade pieces in my collection.
When it has arrived, I will post it along with an Ottoman yat with nearly identical blade.
Now....I am just waiting for a datu ivory hilted Moro kriss with
wootz blade!!!
