I think what you are calling a chisel grind is actually a blade with a triangular cross-section. Such blades are a known style during the Spanish Colonial period. The black leather sheath is well preserved and the knife has been looked after apart from the split in the hilt. The style of the sheath suggests to me that it is ilokano in manufacture, but could be from around Manila. I would say it is pre-1900 Spanish Colonial manufacture.
