I believe you are quite right about your barrel being Eastern.
I'm no expert, but believe it to be Persian. The shaping and scalloping along its length look very close to Persian work to me.
As you already know, it has been 'modernised' from likely a matchlock into a percussion barrel.
It is a very nice looking example.
If Persian, most this style were made in the 17th to early 18th centuries.
After that, they seemed to progress to round unfluted barrels.

Elgood's book on Islamic arms shows some very similar barrels.
