Top piece Naga , Asam India called doa. The others are African. A Somali dagger. The Monitor lizard skin scabbard and knife is very nice from the Fang of Gabon. The curved knife is Congo. I like the Fang knife. I have two Fang reliquary boxes, old ones. I will post pictures latter.
I know these boxes are not weapons but I feel they have a place here as you show a fine Fang knife. These boxes help us understand some of Fang culture.
In the UK and France every village has a memorial to the dead of two world wars and many societies erect thousands of memorial statues to their illustrious fore bares, we are all used to the veneration of this type of memorial. Now imagine being a nomad is the tropical jungle of Gabon moving from one place to another. So to keep your society with you as you move you put the relics of your fore bares in a box. I think there is something rather cool about that.
The smaller box is the oldest and you can see it has been carried around for some time by the ware on the cane suspension rings. It is also interesting for still having the remains of applied veneration material. I have tried to show that it is 62cm high.
