Default The Kwai Bridge and Associated Graveyards

Following the Fort Siloso, Melaka and Fort Cornwallis threads, this one is the last and brings history forward quite considerably.
The Bridge over the River Kwai will be well known by many here. This is the bridge as it is today, repaired after it was bombed, but largely in it's original form.
Also shown are pics of the Cemetery at Kanchanaburi, Thailand. This is one of three major cemeteries associated with the Burma Railway, The others are at Chungkai and Thanbyuzayat.
To put all this in context, the total number of prisoners and other labourers "employed" on this project was approx 275000 of which approx 94000 perished.
A very sobering place to visit..............
