Excellent observation Jim.
Following on from that I have also seen 'plug bayonets' attributed as Spanish with 'bowie-esq' clipped points.
So although the shape of this blade is far removed from the classic form, it's not a million miles from some of the strange late Spanish efforts.
At first glance the blade looks like a simple piece of flat steel. But on closer inspection it looks like the grinding could be more complex and subtle. Perhaps Carlos could give us a top down look at the spine and tell us about the temper, distal/profile taper etc?
