During colonial times guns were issued to various (then) colonial countries, and often marked with the language of the particular country. Middle Eastern marks are found on American, Italian, British and French guns amongst others, issued to the various "militia" units under their control. If your gun is French then don't be surprised, as the French were, and still are, (Tahiti as an example) a colonial power.
