The huge Mons Meg (exhibited in the courtyard of Edinburgh Castle), together with the Faule Magd in Dresden (the barrel about 1450, mounted on a later carriage) and the Pumhart of Steyr, is no doubt the best known gigantic piece of cannon made of staves and hoops (Stabring-Geschütz).

These monsters usually threw balls of stone.
