The knife came today, photos below. The accompanying dha (I believe from north Thailand or Burma) is not old but it’s nicely made. The maker is interesting, to me it looks like a Mauser C96!

What do I have here - Thailand or Indonesia/Malaysia?

The hilt looks familiar but I can’t quite place it. Seller photos. No scabbard unfortunately. Appreciate the help, I’m sure there is a post on the forum with a similar example.

Chamorro knife?

I would look into a Guam/Chamorro origin, it resembles several Chamorro knives I’ve owned in the past. The 1899 date is significant (independence from Spain). I posted one here not too long ago.

Nice garab!

Hi Xas,

Just out of curiosity, is the hilt meant to resemble a water buffalo, or is that just coincidental?

New kris/preservation advice?

Just acquired my first legitimate older kris. It looks to be intact (except for the scabbard) but in poor shape. I would like to clean the blade and try to preserve the handle. As you can see the...

Unusual Indonesian? knife

Unsure what I have here. Strongly curved convex blade, very thick at base. Decorative brass ferrule. Woven rattan on wood handle. Could be missing an element at end of handle? I flipped through Van...

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I agree this is likely a billfish bill, and probably SE Asian in origin. Surprised it’s apparently not a common item. The construction is so simple I assumed it...

Yes, I agree with Tim. It’s similar to this Nyamwezi or Ngoni arrow (fig. D) illustrated in “Ata Epe: Bogen und Pfeile Afrikas” by Hendrik Wiethase. Possibly from what is now Tanzania or the...

Unusual dagger, billfish or bone “blade”?

I’m curious to know where this dagger might be from. Doesn’t appear to be particularly old. I’m not sure if the “blade” is a billfish bill or perhaps mammalian leg bone? The hilt is the tip of a...
