The Military Museum down past the cruise ships...

Forgot to say, yes, the new grip on the basket hilt is awful and is on my 'to-do list. The mortuary sword has a latten Passau wolf on it.

Here's the whole sword. I've realised that 'zutnomen' is German for 'to be attributed' so the 'zuntomen' is a stamping typo or older spelling.

1796 Pattern Officers Sword with boatshell guard

I wonder if the holes are for a leather edging piece, folded over the guard edge and stitched through those holes? Harder wearing than yarn.

Walloon Swords construction

Coming late to this, I have 9 C17th swords (all but one are English) and they all feature a tang 'bun' like this.
