Khodmi dagger for comment 1929

I thought this one was interesting as they aren't usually dated.
It's a reasonable example in nice complete order with the date of 1929 on one side and some Berber? symbols on the other.

These have started to turn up regularly over the last year or two. They clearly represent a specific type and not just a couple of atypical anomalies.

Hmmm, I've seen several attributions for these knives. All with some merit. But I've never seen one with a scabbard, until now.
The scabbard on this example reminds me of some Khodmi scabbards.

Hi Nando,

There is a hole in the pommel which I can't see being for anything but a bar/knuckle-bow.
The position is OK, not too low.

I'd have thought it was 17thC, but that's just my guess.
I've been thinking about the 'turnscrew' and 'hammer' and I wondered if it might be for maintaining a musket?
It's a very interesting item....

Hi Cerjak,
It seems to have began life as a rapier and been modified to a dagger.
Interesting piece, I agree about the tool mod's on the guard. Almost like a modern survival knife!

Could be buddy.
That general area I'd say. Sumartra/Indonesia/Malaysia.
I was just googling parang and coming up with some fairly close matches.

I agree with you Detlef.
It reminds me of the Nias Lasara hilts so that general area I'd say.
Possibly Malay, some parang variant?

In fairness, Barry's one looks far more carefully aged.

What's the blade like on yours? Is it sharp? What's the steel like?
The blade on Ibrahiims example looks completely flat with simple fullers, almost like a long machete blade.

I've seen a few similar pattern welded "Damascus" blades on sabres of similar age. A very nice piece.

Looks like a real fighter! Love the broad wide blade.

It's probable that the curve is the result of use rather than design, so it would have been a few cm longer originally.

Hi Darren,

Is the length across the curve or around it?
In either event it's still within the length range for a cane and rather long for a swagger stick.
