Jim,

With all due deference, I disagree. Speaking both personally and professionally, my prime use of this site has been to accumulate information on care for the arms in my care; while I have an...

Any and all. I address this to everyone, actually: in essence, I'm very, very confused about Damascus and wootz, the relationships between the two, and how one tells the various varieties apart. My...

Types of Damascus Pattern

OK folks, to assuage my curiosity (and to placate Vandoo, whom I can feel poking me with a metaphorical stick in the cause of getting the forum livelier ;) ), I have a question, simply expressed but...

A fair concern, David, but I suspect (sadly) that any "trade secrets" held on this board are already out in the hands of fakers and charlatans anyway; this being a public forum, it's hardly the sort...

Second that suggestion. The thread could simply be an index, to which members would be trusted to add useful links. Moderator involvement would still be necessary in order to incorporate the various...

I've returned to trying this stuff out on my much-prized, Damascus, rifled barrel, from the Khyber Pass jezail we acquired last year. The results are interesting.

Using RMDC demands a heck of a...

In another classic exercise in Thread Necromancy, I've begun working with this stuff again after a considerable hiatus. Will have some photos to show soon; at present I'm conducting experiments....

Sorry to perform a bit of Thread Necromancy, everyone, but what's the score on this idea? Have there been discussions; has any progress been made? For what it's worth, I like the concept a lot; it'd...

Fernando, allow me to agree with your optimism! I didn't mean to say that the place is unattractive; more that it can be a bit intimidating to a certain breed of person.

I think the best way to...

I would also suggest that joining a place like Ethno Arms can actually be quite daunting. There are a lot of obviously very expert lads and lasses on this site, and the discussion often veers off...

Hemp or jute rope sling care

Howdy chaps. As some of you may be aware, I've acquired myself another jezail (http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=14002), which came with (among other things) a rope sling. I'm not sure...

Don't think it's a copied lock, Rick. If it is, it's astoundingly good; the fit and finish of the parts is superb and conforms exactly to what I'd expect of a contemporary British lock, and the...

Living as I do in rented digs, I find myself pretty well unable to display any items at all. The sad result is that my muskets are propped up in the corner, for no-one's pleasure save my own. Yet, in...

Rick: To answer one query, the tang screw is indeed a screw; the threads are so faint it's not at all easy to make them out, but there they certainly are. I suspect it's just become so worn that...

And more! Final batch. Anyone know who "JW" was? I'm guessing the lockmaker's initials. Seems to suggest, very strongly, that this is a British lock - as does the overall quality. The spring is still...

And some more. I'd like some help regarding the preservation of this sling; it looks and feels like I think hemp ought to (i.e. rough as the devil) but I can't be sure since I've never really seen...

Some more detailed photos. Can't figure out that hammer attachment, and you can hopefully see why. Lock marks look genuine to me, but we shall see. Hammer's unusually nicely made, even though the...

Thanks! I actually didn't know the barrel was watered when I got hold of the gun; it was only on closer examination that I spotted the patterning, which of course made me very happy indeed.

My latest acquisition! Bought from a dealer Daan Saaf again, though not without a struggle getting her back to York.
