Thanks everyone, I'm learning a lot from this thread. I'm still a little confused how the sear is supposed to engage the cock. I don't understand what "force" is supposed to push the sear out into...

Mark on sporterized flintlock

I recently bought a European military flintlock that was converted to a ball and cap hunting rifle. There are no marks on it whatsoever except on the guard over the trigger. It appears to be a W with...

My moukala has a similar seer problem to yours. It's worn down and bent and doesn't seem to fit the cock.

When you say "exported", do you mean that they were made for export, or that they were used in Europe and then exported after their were no longer useful? If they were made for export it seems odd to...

If it's from rust I wonder if the pattern is due to the way the blade was forged? Or did somebody beat on the blade? You'd think that level of abuse would have snapped the blade.

Another possible scenario is that some African merchant mounted a rusty old blade in a new hilt purely to sell to tourists, but the hilt seems just as corroded as the blade. Seems they've been...

Forgot to post more detailed pictures. Unfortunately the lock doesn't work. I can pull the cock out but the seat doesn't engage so it doesn't lock in place. I sent the lock to an expert, he said it...

Thanks! I was a little surprised you didn't snap it up, I figured it was too ratty for your collection. At least the "interesting" part of the blade is intact.

Takouba with single edged European blade

Just won the auction for this but it won't arrive for awhile. The blade supposedly says "Zacona Toscania". Zacona is a town in Tuscany, I presume that's where it was made. Does that town have a...

That looks like a much nicer example than mine. What drew me to this gun, besides the price, is how shiny and worn the stock is. It looks like it'd been handled for many years.

A plain moukala

I just won the auction for this gun. Completely unadorned but it looks like an honest old weapon. The snaphaunce mechanism doesn't appear to fit the gun so I suppose it must be a replacement.

The...

It just arrived. I haven't had a chance to clean it up yet but it looks like the hilt might have some nice grain to it.

It's smaller and thinner than my other Barong, although it's still sturdy...

Yeah, the flatness bothers me. Doesn't look like it was designed to be used. On the other hand that blade edge has clearly been grinded off from a lifetime of use. So clearly it was a user.

Another Mongolian (?) knife

Just won the auction for this. It certainly looks Mongolian but there's something... off about the hilt shape. Maybe it's just the pictures. I'll take better pictures when it arrives. The seller is...

A Barong with a fanciful story

Just won the auction for this guy. Judging by the shape/style I believe it's a Tausug Barong from the early/mid 20tg century. According to the seller it was a wwII bring back from a sailor serving on...

The auction for this one recently ended, nobody bid on it. It was described as a "Ayda Katti" from the Malabar Coast. I *think* the blade is downward curving? It's hard to tell which edge is...
