Talibongs

Nice collection! I agree with your statement that talibongs are one of the more commonly available Filipino knives and swords available in the States, because of US servicemen bring backs. I have a...

For what it's worth, I think that the handle is made of bone. The reason I believe this is the presence of holes in the end of the material which indicate where blood vessels where. This is common...

Your work is very inspiring! I collect ethnic guns as well as vintage American long rifles, and most of mine are well worn. A couple of my long guns suffered from poor amateur restoration attempts....

Ken, you are spot on with your opinion of this spike dagger. It is a swagger stick sword, and most likely made in India for a British customer. I believe there is a brass collar missing from the...

Spike dagger. Japanese?

I just acquired this interesting spike dagger. Due to markings on the blade, I am thinking this could be Japanese in origin but am open to opinions or comments. Overall, it is around 24 inches long....

I'm certain now that this is a corn knife made from an old sword. US Civil War sword most likely. I thought the blade had some age to it. Repurposed war weapon to farm implement. Thanks for your...

WW2 era Philippine bolo/machete

I just bought this piece. The tag on it said, "WWII Philippine Bring Back". It could well be from the Philippines, but would like opinions from forum members. The blade is hand forged, possibly from...

One thing that stands out to me that this is a modern piece, made to look aged is that the two round head slotted screws on the gun seem to be peened the same way. The peening has partially closed...

I have had this knife in my collection for a few years, but have never researched where it was made. Based on a few clues I believe it is Asian in origin. Total length is 25cm, or 10 inches. Blade...

I like the cover over the frizzen spring on the lock. I've never seen this feature on other flintlocks. It seems to me that it is for aesthetics, rather than serving any function with firing.

My World War 2 era Talabongs

I acquired these two Talabongs at the same shop. I believe they were brought to the USA by a US sailor or Marine after their service in the Philippines. One is marked "Subiner", possibly the maker's...
